Step Tracking
Steps are a simple way to track how much physical activity you are getting each day. Our activity tracker uses your phone’s built-in motion sensors coupled with our own intelligent algorithms to count how many steps you take each day for you.
Why 10,000 steps per day?
An average person takes about 3,000 to 4,000 steps in their daily life at work and at home. In order to reach the World Health Organization’s (WHO) daily activity requirement, we all need an additional 30-60 minutes of walking, or about another 3,000-6,000 steps. In other words:
4,000 Average steps
+3,000 WHO minimum
+3,000 WHO ideal
= 10,000 steps for an active life!
Generally, how many steps you take per day can give you a good idea of how active you are. Pacer uses the following classifications for your daily steps:
Steps | Activity Level |
<3000 | Sedentary |
<6000 | Lightly Active |
< 10000 | Moderately Active |
> 10000 | Highly Active |
As a general rule, if your goal is to lose weight or improve your overall fitness level, you should target the highly active zone.
