Pacer works with Apple Health so your steps, distance, calories and workout data can flow seamlessly between your phone, Apple Watch and other fitness apps. If your data isn’t syncing or the numbers don’t match, follow the steps below to restore the connection.
1) Confirm Pacer Is Connected to Apple Health
Pacer won’t read or write data unless you’ve connected it to Apple Health. To check:
- Open Pacer.
- Tap your Profile (top‑left corner) → Steps Data Source.
- Tap Apple Health and choose Connect.
- Enable “Use Apple Health as Primary Data Source.”
- Select Turn On All to authorize Pacer to access and update your Health data.
- Tap Allow and keep Pacer open until the sync finishes.
If you want to sync Body Weight & Blood Pressure data, or Food & Nutrition data, enable those options on the same screen and tap Turn On All and Allow.
2) Grant Pacer All Required Permissions
Apple Health controls which data categories third‑party apps can read and write. Without these permissions, sync will fail.
- Open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Tap your Profile (top right) → Apps → Pacer.
Select Turn On All to authorize Pacer to access and update your Health data.
If you prefer not to grant Pacer access to all categories of Health data, please toggle Steps, Active Energy, Walking + Running Distance, Workouts, and Flights Climbed to ON at a minimum. These settings are required to ensure Pacer operates correctly.
- Return to Pacer and wait a few minutes while data syncs.
Tip: Turning on all categories ensures Pacer can both read and write your fitness data. You can always turn categories off later if you prefer.
3) Check Apple Health Data Source Priority
Apple Health may combine data from multiple sources (phone, Apple Watch, other apps) before sending it back to Pacer. If your step count seems off, adjust the data priority:
- Open the Health app → Steps → Data Sources & Access.
- Ensure your Apple Watch (if you use one) or preferred device is at the top of the list.
- Drag Pacer below any sources you want to prioritize (e.g., Apple Watch) so Health doesn’t overwrite its own numbers.
Apple Health’s final number might be higher or lower than the raw data because Apple does not publish how it merges sources. This is normal.
4) Perform a Manual Resync
If permissions look correct but Pacer still shows missing or old data, try a manual resync:
- Go to Health → Profile → Apps → Pacer.
- Toggle all categories off, wait a few seconds, then toggle them back on.
- In Pacer, open Profile → Steps Data Source → Apple Health.
- Enable “Use Apple Health as Primary Data Source.”
- Tap Allow. Wait for the sync to complete.
Manual resyncing forces Apple Health to rebuild its data cache and refresh Pacer’s connection.
5) Check for iOS or Health App Issues
- Update Pacer and iOS. Make sure both Pacer and iOS are on the latest versions; sync issues often occur after major OS updates.
- Restart your iPhone. A quick restart often fixes Apple Health crashes where data appears to vanish.
- Check Storage & Background App Refresh. Low storage or disabled background refresh can prevent data syncing.
- Avoid Force‑closing Health or Pacer while syncing. Let the sync finish before swiping them away.
6) Special Notes
- Syncing isn’t required. Pacer tracks steps with your phone’s motion sensor even if you don’t use Apple Health. You can safely turn off Apple Health syncing at any time.
- Historical Data. When you first connect, Pacer imports all historical data stored in Apple Health—even from before you installed Pacer. That’s why you might suddenly see data from months ago.
- Apple Watch & Other Wearables. Pacer reads Apple Watch data through Apple Health. Make sure your watch is paired and syncing to Apple Health before troubleshooting Pacer.
7) Still Not Syncing?
If you’ve tried all of the above and data still won’t sync:
- Contact Pacer Support: In Pacer, go to Me → Settings → Help & Support. Provide details like your iOS version, Pacer version, and screenshots of your Health permissions. The support team can investigate deeper issues.
