If you can’t join a Group/Club (can’t find it, Join button does nothing, invite link won’t open, or you get an error), it’s usually caused by one of these:
- You’re using the wrong join method (invite link vs QR vs code)
- The invite link / code is expired or the org is closed to new participants
- The app can’t reach the server due to network/VPN restrictions
- Your app or device needs a restart/update
- You’re signed into the wrong account (or a social-login account without a linked email)
Follow the steps below in order.
1) Confirm What You’re Trying to Join (Group vs Challenge vs Org)
Different “spaces” in Pacer can have different join methods:
- Group/Club (community group): often joined via invite code or in-app search
- Challenge: can be joined via share link, QR code, or challenge code
- Pacer for Teams org (private event space): joined via an Org Code entered in the app
If the organizer gave you an Org Code, don’t use a Challenge Code (and vice versa).
2) Use the Correct Join Method
A) Joining via Invite Link
If you open an invite/share link on your phone, Pacer may:
- open the group/club page directly in the app (if installed), or
- send you to the App Store / Google Play first
If you installed the app after opening the link, you may need to go back and tap Join again from the link page.
B) Joining via QR Code
QR codes typically behave like links: scan → open web page → tap Join.
C) Joining via Group/Club Code
Users can search for a group/club using a code inside the app.
D) Joining via Org Code (Pacer for Teams)
If you’re already logged in, you can usually tap the search icon on the home screen and enter the Org Code.
3) Check If the Group/Club Is Closed or the Code Is No Longer Valid
If the organizer/admin closed the group/club or rotated codes, the old Group/Club Code / QR / link may stop working (you may not be able to locate the org).
What to do
- Ask the organizer to confirm the group/club is open to new participants
- Request a fresh link/QR/code (don’t reuse an old screenshot)
4) Fix Connection Issues (Most Common “Join Failed” Cause)
iPhone / iPad
- Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi or cellular and Airplane Mode is off.
- If you use VPN / profiles / filters (work/school device), they can block app connectivity—search Settings for “VPN” and disable/remove if appropriate.
Android
- Restart your phone and check for system updates (basic but effective).
For both
- Try a different network (switch Wi-Fi ↔ cellular)
- Temporarily disable VPN/ad-blockers/private DNS
- Avoid joining on unstable public Wi-Fi
5) App Quick Fixes (Safe and Fast)
- Close and reopen the app, then try joining again.
- Restart your device and retry.
- Update Pacer to the latest version, then try again.
6) Account Issues (Wrong Login / Social Login Edge Cases)
If you have multiple accounts (Apple/Google/Facebook/email), you might be logged into the wrong one.
What to do
- Confirm the account you’re signed into is the one the organizer expects.
- If you signed up with a social account, some org flows may require an email to be linked (some organizers explicitly recommend linking email for synchronization).
7) If You’re Seeing “Pending” (Private Groups)
Some Groups/Clubs require approval:
- Your request may be pending admin approval (not an error).
- Ask the organizer/admin to check and approve you.
Contact Support (What to Include)
If none of the above works, send support:
- Screenshot of the error / the join screen
- The join method you used (link / QR / Org Code / Challenge Code)
- The exact code/link (if safe to share)
- Your Pacer account identifier (email/username)
