Pacer’s streak feature is a motivational tool designed to keep you moving every day. It tracks how many days in a row you meet your daily step goal and celebrates consistency. Building a streak encourages healthy habits and adds a fun layer of accountability, especially when paired with Pacer’s reminders and friend features.
What Counts as a Streak?
Your personal streak represents consecutive days on which you reach or exceed your daily step goal (Goal Streak mode) or half of your daily step goal (Standard Streak mode). Pacer offers a default step goal (often 10,000 steps), but you can adjust this goal or enable dynamic goals in the app. Every time you hit your goal on a calendar day, your streak increases by one. If you miss a day or do not reach your step goal, the streak resets to zero.
Note: Only walk, run & hike (no manual input) data recorded is used for calculating streaks.
Streak Modes
You have the option to choose between two different streak modes to track your progress:
- Standard Streak mode allows you to earn a streak each time you achieve at least 50% of your daily step goal. This mode is designed to provide a more flexible and attainable way to maintain your streak, encouraging consistent activity even if you don't reach your full target every day.
Goal Streak mode, on the other hand, requires you to meet your entire daily step goal to earn a streak. This option is ideal for those who want to challenge themselves and stay fully committed to reaching their complete step target each day, promoting a higher level of fitness discipline.
What can I do If I can't meet my daily step goal?
Life is unpredictable, and events such as illness, travel, or other unforeseen circumstances can disrupt your daily routine.
Understanding this, Pacer has designed its streak-building system to be more accommodating and flexible, allowing users to maintain their progress even when life gets in the way.
To support this, Pacer incorporates several thoughtful features that help make it easier to keep up with your goals despite interruptions.
Streak Rest Days
If you happen to miss reaching your daily step goal, Pacer will automatically designate that particular day as a rest day. This thoughtful feature ensures that your streak remains unbroken, allowing you to maintain your motivation and consistency over time without the frustration of losing progress due to occasional off days.
- You are allowed to take up to two rest days within each week, which runs from Sunday through Saturday, without losing your current streak. This means that even if you do not meet your step goal on up to two days during the week, your streak will remain intact.
- Rest days are automatically applied whenever you fail to reach your daily step goal. This automatic application ensures that you do not have to manually designate a rest day; the system will recognize when your steps fall short and count that day as a rest day.
- It is important to note that rest days reset at the beginning of each new week and do not carry over to the following week. So, any unused rest days from the previous week will not be available once the new week starts.
- If you do not meet your step goal on a day and you have already used up your two rest days for that week, your streak will be broken. When this happens, your streak count will be reset to zero, and you will need to start building your streak again from the beginning.
Streak Pause (Premium users only)
You need not worry about losing your streak if you require a break due to overtraining, illness, injury, or other circumstances. You may pause your Streak for up to 31 days without forfeiting it while you recover.
- Premium users have the benefit of being granted one Streak Pause for each calendar month. This means that every month, if you are subscribed to the premium service, you are entitled to temporarily halt your streak once without losing your progress.
- The Streak Pause feature allows you to suspend your streak for a period of up to 31 days. During this pause, your streak will be protected and remain intact, ensuring that your progress is not lost even though you are not actively maintaining the streak.
- Once you activate the Streak Pause, it takes effect immediately. The streak count will stop including any data from the current day when the pause is initiated. This pause will automatically end after a maximum duration of 31 days, at which point your streak will resume as normal.
- Additionally, you have the flexibility to cancel the Streak Pause at any time before the 31-day period ends. This allows you to resume your streak whenever you choose, giving you control over your streak management.
Streak Repair (Premium users only)
- The Streak Repair feature allows you to restore any Streak that has been interrupted or broken, as long as the break occurred within the last 7 days from the time you choose to use the Repair. This means that if you accidentally miss a day or two, you can still recover your progress without losing your streak.
- It is important to note that you cannot use the Streak Repair feature to fix a Streak that was broken more than 7 days ago. If the break in your streak happened beyond this 7-day window, the streak cannot be restored and will be considered ended.
- Additionally, this feature is exclusive to Premium users, who are entitled to claim one Streak Repair per calendar month. This limitation encourages users to maintain their streaks consistently while providing a safety net for occasional slips.
What Happens When a Streak Breaks?
If you fail to meet your daily step goal and do not have any rest days or repair left, your streak resets to 0. Although it can feel disappointing to lose a long streak, remember that your overall activity history and achievements remain. You can always start building a new streak the very next day.
Tips to Maintain Your Streak
- Set realistic goals – Choose a step target that fits your lifestyle. You can adjust your daily step goal in Pacer’s Goals settings.
- Use reminders – Enable daily goal reminders and streak notifications. They prompt you to move if you haven’t met your goal yet.
- Plan your day – Schedule walks or workouts, especially on busy days. Even short bursts of activity add up.
- Leverage wearables – If you own an Apple Watch, Fitbit or Garmin, keep it charged and synced so steps don’t get lost.
- Invite friends – A friend can help keep you accountable. In a Friend Streak, both of you must meet your goals for the streak to grow , which can be a fun motivator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my streak increase if I exceed my goal by a large margin?
Your streak increases by one regardless of how many steps you take beyond your daily goal. Taking extra steps is great for your health, but it doesn’t accelerate your streak; it simply helps ensure you hit the goal each day.
Can I change my daily step goal without losing my streak?
Yes. Adjusting your step goal doesn’t break your streak. However, the new goal applies immediately, so you must meet or exceed the updated goal to continue the streak on that day.
How do I disable streak notifications?
Navigate to Settings → Reminder & Pop-up Settings and toggle off Step Goal & Streak or other related notifications. This will stop push notifications but will not affect your streak progress.
Maintaining a streak is a powerful way to stay consistent with your walking routine. Use Pacer’s streak feature to celebrate each day you hit your goal and to build habits that last. If you ever need additional help or have issues with your streak not updating, contact support from within the app.
