Pacer Leagues are weekly competitions that encourage you to stay active. Your position on the leaderboard depends on your total points, which come mainly from steps and activity bonuses. Because leagues promote continuous participation, there is no way to “pause” your progress without leaving the leaderboard entirely. If you stop moving, your weekly points drop and you risk being demoted to a lower league.
For Premium members who occasionally need a break, Pacer offers League Protection—a feature that keeps you from dropping down a league if you don’t compete for a week.
Why use League Protection?
- Maintain your league level – Without protection, missing a week can place you in the Demotion Zone, causing you to drop a league. League Protection keeps you safe for one cycle.
- Fairness and flexibility – It gives you breathing room while still upholding the league’s weekly cadence and fairness rules.
- Premium benefit – It’s available only to Pacer Premium subscribers, so it’s an exclusive perk for supporting members.
Who can use League Protection?
- You must have an active Pacer Premium subscription.
- One per calendar month – Premium users can claim only one League Protection each month.
- No stacking – You cannot equip multiple protections at once.
- Single use, single week – Each League Protection lasts for one league cycle (one week). After that week ends, normal promotion/demotion rules apply.
How to activate League Protection
- Open Pacer on your mobile device and ensure you’re logged into your Premium account.
- Go to the Shop – Look for a section named “Boosts” or “League Protection”. Premium users should see the option to claim it.
- Claim or purchase – Follow the prompts to activate League Protection. If your account qualifies (one protection per month), the option will be available without additional cost.
- Check your status – After activation, your League screen or profile should indicate that League Protection is active for the current cycle.
How it works
- Active for one week – Once activated, League Protection shields you from demotion during the current league cycle.
- No demotion – Even if your steps and points are low, you will not drop to a lower league while protection is active.
- Points still accumulate – You continue earning points normally. At the end of the protected week, your total points determine whether you stay or move up in the next cycle.
- Expires automatically – After one cycle, the protection ends. You must compete as usual in the following week or activate another protection (if eligible next month).
Tips for using League Protection effectively
- Plan ahead – Activate it when you know you’ll be less active (e.g., vacation, illness, or a busy work week).
- Use resets – Leagues reset every Monday; consider starting your protection at the beginning of a cycle to maximize coverage.
- Combine with other features – Even with protection, try to log some activity. You can still earn points from GPS walks, treadmill workouts, park check‑ins and boosts.
- Track your usage – Because you get only one per month , avoid using it unless you truly need a break.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use League Protection without Premium?
No. League Protection is available only to Premium subscribers.
Can I stack two protections for a longer break?
No. You can only have one active at a time and may claim one per calendar month.
What happens if I don’t activate protection and stop walking?
Your weekly steps will decrease and you might drop to a lower league. Without protection, there’s no way to pause your league progress.
Do I still earn points while protected?
Yes. You earn points normally, and your rank can still improve if you stay active.
Can I leave the league instead of using protection?
You may leave at any time, but you can’t rejoin until the following week and will likely be placed in a lower league because you’ll have zero points for that week.
Summary
League Protection is a Premium-only feature that lets you take a short break without losing your league level. Use it strategically when you need a breather, and remember that it’s limited to one use per month.
