If several devices or apps record your activity, choose which source Apple Health should prefer for Steps. This is useful when you want your wearable's steps to take priority over overlapping records from another source.
Pacer reads Apple Health as its primary step source. Choosing a brand in Pacer does not make Pacer use only that brand's steps.
Change the priority for Steps
- Open Apple Health on your iPhone.
- Find Steps under Activity. Depending on your iOS version, use Search or Browse.
- Open Data Sources & Access, then tap Edit.
- Drag your preferred source to the top of Data Sources and tap Done.
The source may use the companion app's name rather than your device model. Apple explains these controls in Manage Health data.
If you opened Health from Pacer, it may open on the home screen. Navigate to Steps yourself; Pacer does not open the ordering control directly.
Finish in Pacer
Return to Pacer after saving the order. If you are following a wearable setup guide, confirm that you completed the instructions, then finish the flow.
You can reopen the general guide through Apple Health Connected Devices → Manage Priorities. Use Sync now after new activity data is available in Apple Health.
Pacer cannot read or verify the priority order. Confirming the instructions records that you completed the guide, not an automatic verification of your Health settings.
Which source should I move?
Choose the source you want to use for your steps—for example, the companion app associated with your preferred wearable. Do not move an unfamiliar source merely because it is the first item shown.
Use the matching brand connection guide if you are unsure which app belongs to your device.
My preferred source is missing
First check that your companion app has shared recent Steps with Apple Health and has permission to write them. Return to the companion app, sync your wearable, and check again. An app that only shares another kind of data may not be available as a Steps source.
Priority changes cannot create missing activity or repair an upstream connection. Pacer's wearable troubleshooting guide explains how to check each part of the connection.
Does this make the totals exactly match my wearable?
Not necessarily. The data that has reached Apple Health may differ from what the companion app currently displays. Pacer also retains its existing rules for recorded and manually added activity.
Changing priority is not the same as turning off other sources. You do not need to delete data, disconnect every other app, or turn off iPhone tracking simply to follow this guide.
