Connect Pacer to Apple Health to use activity data available in Health, including steps shared by compatible wearables. Apple Health becomes your primary step data source in Pacer.
If you use a wearable, there are two connections to set up: the wearable's app must share data with Apple Health, and Pacer must be allowed to access Apple Health. Connecting Pacer alone does not connect your wearable's app.
Before you begin
- Use Pacer on the iPhone where your Apple Health data is available.
- Keep your iPhone unlocked during setup.
- Update Pacer before following these instructions. Older releases may have different screens.
Connect Apple Health in Pacer
- Open Pacer and go to Settings → Steps Data Source. You can also start from Settings → Apps & Devices → Other Wearables.
- Choose the Apple Health or wearables connection entry. If you first see Pacer's existing Apple Health settings page, use its primary-data-source control to start connecting.
- On Connect Pacer to Apple Health, tap Activate Apple Health.
- If the Health Access screen appears, turn on the requested categories and tap Allow. Depending on your iOS version, the all-categories control may have a slightly different label.
- Keep Pacer open while it checks access and imports the available activity data. Follow the result shown in Pacer.
The permission screen may be skipped if you have already seen it. This does not, by itself, mean that every permission is enabled.
After activation, you can review recent sources and choose a wearable to set up. If your wearable already shares steps with Apple Health, it may already appear in the source list.
If the permission screen does not appear, or setup cannot continue
In Apple Health, open your profile, go to Apps under Privacy, and choose Pacer. Review and enable the categories requested for the connection. Return to Pacer and retry. Apple documents app access controls in its Health data guide.
Pacer checks more than access to Steps. Enabling only Steps may not be enough to finish setup. Pacer also needs readable activity data: an unsuccessful check does not necessarily mean you denied permission.
If Health contains no recent activity, first let your iPhone or wearable record and share activity normally, then try again. Do not add artificial activity just to pass setup.
If setup was paused while your iPhone was locked, unlock it and return to Pacer. If an import could not finish, use the retry option shown in Pacer.
What does the Connected Devices list mean?
It shows sources from the most recent successful check of readable Steps data covering the current local day and the previous six days. It is not a permanent list of paired devices or every app authorized in Apple Health.
An empty list does not necessarily mean Apple Health activation failed. Apps that only share sleep or heart rate will not appear as Steps sources.
Refresh or change your data source
Open Apple Health Connected Devices and tap Sync now to ask Pacer to read Apple Health again. This does not force your wearable or its app to upload new data.
To stop using Apple Health as your primary source, choose Phone in Steps Data Source, or use the primary-source control on Pacer's Apple Health settings page. Changing Pacer's primary source does not automatically disconnect your wearable's app from Apple Health.
